Verge (XVG)

The Privacy-Focused Digital Currency

So, what exactly is Verge (XVG)?

The cryptocurrency has been causing a lot of buzz lately, mainly because of its new partnership with Pornhub. Through this partnership, the Verge cryptocurrency can be used to pay for many of Pornhub's services.

But this isn't where Verge's value ends. Verge was likely selected by Pornhub because it allows users a high degree of privacy, which is something that Bitcoin lacks.

And what this means is that Verge can be used in quite a few industries — not just in adult entertainment, which is an industry where a lot of new technologies make their debuts.

Over the course of this Coin Index spotlight, we take a look at Verge's history, its team, and its technology.

So, let's get started...

Verge's History and Team

Verge was introduced to the digital currency world in 2014, which makes it one of the older digital currencies on the market. The digital token first came onto the market under the name DogecoinDark (DOGED). It wasn't until 2016 that it was rebranded as the Verge Currency.

Verge is a 100% open-source project. And its team members come from around the globe.

You can get a full list of them here.

The main benefit of having an open-source team is that it allows anyone with talent to have access to the project, regardless of national boundaries. And this gives Verge an edge in our increasingly decentralized world.

Another unique thing about Verge is its community emphasizes that it's not a company. The decentralized network has never had an initial coin offering (ICO) and has never had any pre-mining.

All the marketing efforts for the Verge team take place through community effort...

What Does the Verge Token Do?

Verge is one of the tokens that fall into Bitcoin's long-defended peer-to-peer currency space. The token was developed to provide users with a currency that's free from any third-party involvement.

However, Verge has taken this one step further than Bitcoin has...

Like Monero and Dash, Verge has chosen to focus on fixing one of Bitcoin's biggest issues: privacy.

And although Bitcoin's blockchain allows users a certain degree of security and privacy, your Bitcoin wallet address can still be discovered. This discovery can then be used to link you to other transactions within the network.

Verge tackles this problem through its Wraith Protocol.

Put simply, this technology was designed for users to switch between public and private ledgers when using the Verge blockchain.

And when the Protocol is turned on, all the transaction data is hidden. There's also the benefit of optional stealth addressing, which keeps transactions secret and not linked to any public address, unlike Bitcoin.

Users can also turn the protocol off for more transparency. This would be good for big institutions that want to use blockchain because of its transparency.

Verge is prepared to offer users the best of both worlds. And this is likely why it was an easy choice for Pornhub, which would probably want to protect the privacy of its customers.

For Digital Currency, 2017 Was a Landmark Year…

The price of Bitcoin, the world's first digital asset, soared. And that turned many first-time investors into millionaires within a matter of months. Beyond Bitcoin, other digital assets also gained national attention and the support of massive corporations like Intel, Microsoft, and IBM.

But today, investors are looking at a different digital currency landscape…

A whole new wave of valuable blockchain companies is giving investors a second chance at Bitcoin-level profits.
